Diners have loved hash browns in all of its forms for generations. According to The Old Foodie, people have been creating versions of hash browns since at least 1835, and röestis, latkes, and tortillas de papas may have served as the dishs crispy predecessors. If you decide to get some premade hash browns, these potato patties might look a bit different than homemade hash browns. According to the Idaho Potato Commision, hash browns like the ones served at McDonalds came about when restaurants started separating out potato scraps left over after french fries were cut into their classic shape. These scraps were then formed into hash brown patties, and the rest was history.
While you may be familiar with hash browns in premade patty form and looser, homemade form, Aldi plans to introduce a brand new shape of fried potato to its customers. Instagrammer @aldifavoritefinds discovered Aldis hash brown sticks and couldnt help but post a photo. Followers quickly jumped aboard the post, flooding the comment section with excited replies.

But it’s not always possible to get to McDonald’s in the morning, so what is a girl to do? Just forgo a hash brown and settle for a breakfast banana? Not on my watch, son.
As well as the hash browns, Aldi is also selling versions of McDonald’s chicken nuggets. Aldi’s 12 Chicken Nuggets With Dips Box (£1.69) offers 12 nuggets accompanied by two tasty dips: tangy Sweet Chilli and rich BBQ, all served in a McDonald’s style cardboard box. There’s also a Big Stack burger available, which takes inspiration from the iconic Big Mac. Aldi’s Snacksters Big Stack Burger, (£1.49), is made up of two tasty lean beef burgers, fresh crispy lettuce and creamy, flavoursome cheese.
McDonald’s breakfasts are the breakfasts of champions. Yeah, porridge is great (although, baked oats are even better), and cereal is swell, but you just can’t beat a McDonald’s brekkie – especially one that involves a Macca’s hash brown.
Aldi’s box of 10 Breakfast Hash Browns (£1.49) offers an affordable alternative to the McDonald’s solo-served version. Add one to Aldi’s Village Bakery English Muffin (39p, four-pack), with an Oakhurst Pork Patty (£1.75, six-pack) for a tasty breakfast muffin, at a fraction of the cost!
