How Did Rooster Die In The Ranch

The Ranch returned Friday on Netflix with Part 6, which shed light on the status of one its main characters: Rooster Bennett (Danny Masterson).

Fans know that Masterson was fired from the series in December 2017 after four women accused him of sexual assault. He denied the allegations, but the streamer decided to let him go, regardless.

Back in Part 5 of The Ranch, Rooster mysteriously disappeared after getting a death threat from Mary’s (Megyn Price) ex-con boyfriend, Nick, and in the trailer for Part 6 (released in November), his brother, Colt (Ashton Kutcher), says he’s missing.

Well, that’s sadly not the case: Rooster is presumed dead after his motorcycle was found at the bottom of a cliff by authorities. He was supposedly speeding and went over the guardrail.

Colt is in a total state of denial and thinks Rooster faked his own death, probably because of Nick. After tracking his credit card to a motel, the owner says he hasn’t seen Rooster in days.

Just as Colt makes that discovery, the authorities tell Beau (Sam Elliot) and Maggie (Debra Winger) that the search-and-recovery team will try and find Rooster’s remains. They accept the reality their son is dead and move forward with planning a memorial service.

Colt is still in a state of shock. At home he finds a package from Rooster, and in it is a sign that reads “Bennett Brothers Ranch,” a onesie for Colt’s soon-to-be-born baby girl, and a note to his brother thanking him for all that he’s done.

In Part 6, we learned that Rooster was presumed dead, his life cut short due to a motorcycle accident after Nick threatened to harm his family if Rooster didn’t leave town. Since they never found Rooster’s body, many people believed that the character could potentially return to the show.

See ya never, Rooster. When Part 6 of The Ranch was released on Friday, December 7, Rooster’s fate was revealed. In case you missed it, Danny Masterson was fired from the series following multiple sexual misconduct allegations in December 2017. At the end of part 5 (the first part of season 3), his character leaves after Nick threatens to kill him if he doesn’t leave town. So, he exits.

When season 3 returns, Ashton Kutcher’s Colt finds out about the threat and fights Nick over it. They later end up at a police station and Officer Wilkerson agrees to help Colt find Rooster. Soon after, they find his motorcycle at the bottom of a cliff. Despite being in complete denial, Colt soon finds out that Rooster died in an accident.

Later in the season, they even hold a memorial for Rooster – one that Colt is too upset to even attend. He completely breaks down when seeing a package that Rooster sent him before he died: a onesie for Colt’s daughter on the way and a thank you note to his brother. Colt gives a touching eulogy at the funeral and the family toasts to Rooster at Maggie’s bar afterward.

Masterson, 42, has been under investigation since March when four women came forward with claims that they had been raped by the actor in the early 2000s. Masterson has denied all claims.

“I am obviously very disappointed in Netflix’s decision to write my character off of The Ranch. From day one, I have denied the outrageous allegations against me. Law enforcement investigated these claims more than 15 years ago and determined them to be without merit,” Masterson said in a statement to Us Weekly in December following his firing. “I have never been charged with a crime, let alone convicted of one. In this country, you are presumed innocent until proven guilty.”

It seems like Netflix and the creators of ‘The Ranch’ had no choice other than firing Danny Masterson from the show. The intense decision developed in the midst of a controversy that dragged the actor’s name into the mud. In 2017, Danny Masterson faced accusations of sexual assault, post which the actor was disbarred from the Netflix comedy. Not just one, but multiple women reported against Masterson on accounts of rape, sexual assault as well as domestic violence during the course of his romantic relationships. In fact, one of the women called out the actor for having drugged her and raped her in the state of unconsciousness.

The Masterson scandal soon took on a very public nature and Netflix was being thrown under the bus for not firing the actor. It was just a matter of time, however, before Netflix decided to cut off Masterson’s Rooster Bennett from the rest of ‘The Ranch’ episodes after the actor finished his part 5 run for the series. The act of cutting him out of the show before being proven guilty did not agree with Masterson however. He said in a statement to “The Wrap”, “I am obviously very disappointed in Netflix’s decision to write my character off of ‘The Ranch’. From day one, I have denied the outrageous allegations against me. Law enforcement investigated these claims more than 15 years ago and determined them to be without merit. I have never been charged with a crime, let alone convicted of one. In this country, you are presumed innocent until proven guilty”.
