How Long to Microwave Ramen
First, add 2 cups of water to a microwave-safe bowl. Then place the dried ramen noodles in the water.
You dont need to submerge the noodles in the water. The steam from the boiling water will cook the noodles.
There’s no need to transfer the ramen to another bowl if you have instant noodles that come in a foam cup, but you can if you’d like. However, it could be challenging to pour in enough water to make ramen soup in a cup for a more soupy consistency.
Place a cover on top of the bowl. You can use a cover specifically made for microwave cooking.
Or, use a microwave-safe plate or plastic wrap. Make sure to leave a small opening for venting if you’re using plastic wrap.
So, how long should you microwave ramen? Let the noodles cook for two minutes on high power. After that, take off the lid and give the noodles a stir or flip.
Cook the ramen for an additional 30 seconds, or until the noodles are cooked to your preference.
We like ramen noodles a little firmer. But if you prefer softer ramen noodles, feel free to add another minute.
If using the noodles alone, then drain most of the cooking liquid. When adding flavor to the ramen, you should leave a small amount of liquid behind.
The noodles will absorb the excess liquid as they cool.
Naturally, you can omit the hot water or broth if you want ramen soup.
Once more, the greatest way to improve instant ramen is to use your own preferred flavors instead of the seasoning packet.
We enjoy tossing the noodles with a small amount of butter and olive oil. We also add a tiny bit of Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
To achieve Asian flavors, incorporate soy sauce, rice vinegar, ginger, sesame oil, garlic powder, and onion powder into the noodles. For additional umami flavor, you can also add chopped green onion and sesame seeds.
However, you can really add anything you want: bean sprouts, a soft boiled egg, Sriracha, hot sauce, hoisin sauce, or even Spam!
You may have seen Kylie Jenner’s well-known ramen recipe on social media, in which she cooks her ramen in a small saucepan and then whisks in a beaten raw egg. The egg won’t cook through in the microwave, so this won’t work.
However, you are welcome to cook the egg separately and top your microwave noodles with it if you so choose!
Microwaving Ramen Noodles
In a microwave-safe bowl, add 1 to 2 cups of water, depending on your preferred soupy consistency for your ramen. Drop the dried ramen in the water. Depending on the size and power of your microwave, use the high setting for three to five minutes.
Getting Fancy
- 1 Embrace ad-ins and condiments. The first rule of the Ramen Club is to not let anyone tell you how to eat your Ramen noodles. Cast aside the oppression of the flavor packet! Cook the noodles and add flavor to the soup yourself rather than adding that tiny package of meat flavoring. By adding inexpensive basic condiments from most grocery stores, you can transform your Ramen into a delectable meal fit for a restaurant. After taking the broth out of the microwave, try flavoring it with any combination of the following ingredients: [7] miso paste, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, lemon juice, Sriracha or red chili paste, soy sauce, honey, green onions, and basil.
- 2 Add vegetables. Ramen can be made healthier and more flavorful by adding extra vegetables, such as chopped fresh Thai basil leaves or a small amount of spinach. Its a simple way to hot-rod your Ramen. [8] You might want to add celery, finely chopped carrot, garlic, or onions to the soup before cooking the noodles. Any other frozen vegetable you have in your freezer that has been precooked would also work well to add texture. Once the noodles are cooked, top with chopped herbs of any kind or add greens. In addition to the delicious flavors of basil and cilantro, try adding a tablespoon of half-and-half and some rosemary to some chicken-flavored ramen. It’s a savory treat that tastes just like Thanksgiving and completely transforms the dish.

Although it can be challenging to cook eggs in the broth using the egg-drop method, you can still cook eggs in the broth using a microwave or by chopping hard-boiled eggs and adding them on top. [9] After the noodles are cooked, take them out and crack an egg into the soup to add flavor and density. Use a fork or chopstick to give it a good stir, then put it back in the microwave for a minute or so. The egg should naturally soften in the hot water, but you can give it a quick second chance to be sure.

Make poor man’s peanut noodles. jpg”,”smallWidth”:460,”smallHeight”:345,”bigWidth”:728,”bigHeight”:546,”licensing”:”License: Creative Commons

”} 4 Remove the flavor packet from a package of Ramen and use the ingredients you most likely already have in your kitchen to make your own Thai-style peanut noodles. Combine one generous tablespoon of salty peanut butter—ideally an all-natural brand—in a bowl. Add a dash of brown sugar, a tsp soy sauce, and Sriracha or hot sauce to taste to that. It’s also a good idea to add or grated any ginger you have. After removing the noodles from the microwave, remove the majority of the hot water, reserving some to incorporate into the sauce. Transfer the noodles into the bowl containing the sauce and give them a good stir. Top with chopped cilantro and carrot. Its delicious.
