How Many Scovilles Is The Last Dab

Hot Ones is a YouTube sensation that has taken the internet by storm. It is produced by First We Feast and Complex Media and is hosted by Sean Evans.

First debuting in March 2015 the show’s format consists of host Sean Evans interviewing a celebrity guest while both eat 10 chicken wings, each served with a progressively hotter hot sauce and culminating in The Last Dab, a sauce produced by Hot Ones themselves with a Scoville rating of 2,000,000+ units. The Last Dab was developed by legendary chilehead Smokin’ Ed Currie of PuckerButt Pepper Co., the creator of the infamous Carolina Reaper, the world’s hottest pepper.

The show’s tagline, stated by Evans at the beginning of each episode, is “The show with hot questions, and even hotter wings.”

As of 21 May 2022 there has been seventeen seasons of Hot Ones produced with a total of 254 episodes. In 2018 Hot Ones won Best Non-Fiction Series at the Streamy Awards and the episodes on YouTube have been viewed more than a billion times in total.

The Season 18 Lineup of Hot Ones hot sauces was announced by Sean Evans on 20 May 2022 with the first episode of Hot Ones Season 18 scheduled to premiere on Thursday, 26 May.

Each season the lineup of hot sauces is changed with new sauces introduced, although some sauces have appeared in multiple seasons, notably Mad Dog 357, Blair’s Mega Death Sauce, Hot Ones The Classic Hot Sauce, Hot Ones Los Calientes Hot Sauce, Da’ Bomb Beyond Insanity and, of course, the sauce in the perennial ten spot, Hot Ones The Last Dab.

In November 2019 Hot Ones: The Game Show, also hosted by Sean Evans, was announced by WarnerMedia’s TruTV with a release date scheduled for early 2020. The first episode was broadcast on 18 February 2020.

Hot Ones: The Game Show takes place in “The Pepperdome” where two-person teams of contestants go head to head, competing through three rounds of pop-culture trivia questions while also eating hot wings. The winning team then moves to the final round, “The Ring of Fire”, where they play a password game in the hope of winning the $25,000 grand prize.

Three new hot sauces were created especially for Hot Ones: The Game Show; Brain Burner, Eye of the Scorpion and The Constrictor. Heatonist enlisted tattoo artists Natalia Garcia Briceno, Matthew Henning and BJ Betts to bring to life the label art for each of the three sauces.

On a scale of 1-10, Brain Burner rates an 8, Eye of the Scorpion a 9 and The Constrictor a 10. Initially, Heatonist did not announce official Scoville ratings for these three new hot sauces. However, a year after its release, Eye of the Scorpion was added to the Hot Ones Season 14 Lineup in the number nine spot with a Scoville rating of 676,000 SHU.

Below we have assembled a complete list of all the hot sauces featured on the Hot Ones YouTube series, along with their rating in Scoville Heat Units (SHU). Many of these sauces are available for purchase at Sauce Mania.

A Reddit thread about The Last Dab came to a similar consensus, finding the sauce to be delicious but only moderately hot. One possible explanation put forward was that The Last Dab gets its heat from actual peppers, whereas some of the hot-enough-to-cause-real-pain sauces are made with pepper extracts. Extract-based sauces may not have the same high Scoville count, but pepper extract is, as one Redditor put it, “like napalm. It sticks to your mouth.” Whether or not you find The Last Dab all that hot, if you manage to taste it without whimpering, then youve survived the worst that Hot Ones can dish out.

The Last Dab has 2 million-plus Scoville units, comparable to some pepper sprays. Serious stuff, right? Hot Ones guests seem to think so. Some who bought the sauce, though, have been less impressed. Reviews of The Last Dab mention how tasty it is — its made with mustard, ginger root, coriander, and turmeric, and the flavor profile includes hints of chocolate and peach as well as pepper. Still, not everyone agrees with Heatonists claim that the sauce rates 11 out of 10 for hotness. Reviews on the product page include comments such as “If youre accustomed to hot sauces, this wont blow your face off with heat,” “upper medium heat with a few spikes here and there,” “this stuff honestly isnt that hot,” and “Ive experienced hotter jalapenos. Underwhelming if thats all PepperX has to offer.”

Do you ever watch Hot Ones and feel like you could stand up pretty well under the heat? If youre a real hothead, youre probably not too impressed with some of the introductory sauces. After all, some of the level ones and twos have included such familiar grocery store condiments as Texas Pete, Cholula, Tapatio, and Huy Fong Sriracha, stuff thats mild enough for any given kindergartner to handle. However, as everyone knows, the whole premise of the show involves turning up the heat until both host and celebrity guest are squirming and sweating, with heads that look like theyre ready to explode.

The first three seasons made use of some of the hottest sauces on the market at the time, with the best — or worst — of these being Blairs Mega Death Sauce, with a not-so-shabby 550,000 Scoville units (via Sauce Mania). Whats a Scoville unit? They are used on a scale that measures the “heat” of various different peppers. Oola shows the Bell Pepper at the bottom of the scale, with 0 Scoville units, and the hottest known pepper, Pepper X, checks in at a mind-melting 3,180,000 units. Starting with season four of Hot Ones, the producers decided to come up with their own sauce that would be the hottest of the hot. According to First We Feast, this sauce, which is made with that diabolical Pepper X, was named The Last Dab to honor the shows tradition of putting an extra dab of sauce on the last wing.

Is The Last Dab hotter than da bomb?

The pepper takes three forms in this sauce: fresh peppers, dried peppers, and distilled pepper oil (made using CO2 extraction, similar to how the highest quality essential oils are made). The Last Dab Apollo likely has a Scoville rating of 2.5 million+ SHUs, though an official rating has yet to be announced.

Is The Last Dab hotter than Carolina Reaper?

The Classic Hot Sauce (the first hot sauce in the season 10 lineup) measures about 1,800 Scoville units, while the Last Dab, the show’s signature final hot sauce, measures over 2 million Scoville units. Da Bomb comes in at around 135,600 units, according to the show.
