Jose Ole Taquitos Air Fryer

Making frozen taquitos in the air fryer is fast, requires almost no clean-up and doesn’t call for any extra oil. These crispy rolls are perfect for a fast appetizer or meal.

One of my favorite things about air fryers is that they do a great job of crisping up food. Everything from egg rolls to waffle fries, this cooking method provides the perfect amount of crunch. That’s why I love cooking frozen taquitos in the air fryer. The crispy tortilla roll is so good and in my opinion, tastes just like it came out of the deep fryer without the extra oil.

Taquito is Spanish for “small taco”. They are typically made of a rolled up tortilla that has a filling of cheese, chicken, beef or beans inside. It’s then fried to perfection and often served alongside extra toppings or dips.

Tips for Success

Preheat the air fryer if yours doesn’t have a built-in preheat functionality. Some air fryers preheat before starting to count down. e.g. the Instant Pot Duo Crisp. My Cosori has a preheat button that lets me heat up the air fryer before putting the food in.

Keep the taquitos frozen until you’re ready to air fry them.

Don’t stack the frozen taquitos – lay them out in a single layer. I find that I can fit about a dozen in the Cosori air fryer basket, but it’s a bit of a squeeze. The more space there is between the taquitos, the crispier they get.

If you need to make a larger quantity, do it in multiple batches. You can reheat the prior batches for 1-2 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit if they cool down too much.

Serve the taquitos alone or with toppings such as

Every air fryer will vary. The first time you make taquitos in the air fryer, monitor and check on them 2 minutes before the cooking time is up. Adjust the recipe as needed in the future.

So what are taquitos?

Taquitos are a Mexican food consisting of small, rolled up tortillas with a filling of beef, chicken, or cheese (a little variety for dieters). After it’s filled, it’s then deep-fried to perfection. If you aren’t sure what the difference between taquitos or flautas are, taquitos are made with flour tortillas whereas air fryer flautas would be made with corn tortillas.

A fairly simple recipe to make yourself, but with frozen taquitos in an air fryer, it makes things easier.

Trader Joes and Whole Foods brands have no artificial ingredients if you’re looking for something a little healthier. Feel Good Foods is a brand with healthier ingredients and offers gluten-free taquitos.
