Slime Rancher Drone Warp Depot

Hello fellow ranchers! Im not one for long introductions so Ill cut right to the chase: though Im sure lots of people already know how to use drones, I figured I would make a list of tips, tricks, and setups that I have found useful.

Have your own tips? Comment them below! Id love to hear what others are doing with drones. Ill also (probably) add your tip to this list, so it can grow bigger with even more ways to use drones.

I may not be the first to think of these, so Im not taking credit for them.

As you probably know, each ranch expansion is limited to just 2 drones. Which is a shame, but probably because having a bunch of drones everywhere would lag the game, or because they dont want you to easily automate EVERYTHING. But whatever the reason, I have devised a way to (just about) fully automate any ranch expansion (or all of them if you like) with just 2 drones. Heres how:

When harvesting food, drones can only be programmed to harvest one type of food at a time: fruit, veggies, or meat. As such, in order for this to work you must choose one food group for the ranch expansion you want to automate. For this example, lets choose veggies.

So you know what food youll be growing. Now its time to start planning out which plots will be used for what. In this example well be automating the main ranch, which has 8 useable plots. This will work in ANY ranch expansion, but you may end up with an unused plot.

So I need an equal number of corrals (for slimes) and farms/coops (for your chosen food type) so that means Ill be using 4 plots for gardens and 4 for corrals.

Placement. Where should you put the gardens and corrals? Well, first allow me to explain where the magic happens: the drones.

Youll need 2 drones. (duh) One will be used to harvest food and put it into auto feeders, (well call him “FarmerBot”) the other will be used to take plorts from plort collecters and put them in the plort market. (Well call him “MoneyBot”) (Note: drones cannot work across multiple ranch expansions, so if the expansion youre automating doesnt have a plort market handy, youll need to craft a market warp station from the lab and place it somewhere in the desired ranch expansion.

Now depending on how you place your gardens/corrals, you can make one of the two drones jobs easier, but not both. (Not unless all the plots are right next to each other) Generally speaking, having gardens next to corrals will make FarmBots job easier, and having your corrals next to each other to make MoneyBots job easier. The first option is probably a better one because this reduces the chance of a plort contamination between corrals. (This is less of a threat if youre not ranching Lagos)

Now that youve got your corrals, gardens, and drones ready to go, its time for the final step: get slimes and grow the veggies.

In my ranch, I always ranch Lagos. Which means, as long as one of the composing slimes likes veggies, it doesnt matter what the second slime is.

Note: you should NOT have two corrals which both need the same veggie, even if youre growing enough of it. I havent done any extensive testing, but drones do not seem to distribute the same type of food across multiple corrals auto feeders. You can bypass this by telling the drone to drop food directly into corrals, but that will mean youre not using the auto feeder and if you get knocked out while exploring or something, youre drones will run out of water and stop working and youll wake up to a ranch full of hungry slimes because you didnt have any surplus food stored in the auto feeder.

As a result, this means you cant really do 4 Largos at once because there arent enough veggie types. At least, not if you want to use the largos favorite veggie. You can supply the 4th corral with carrots if you want, youll just get less plorts.

Now, with 4 corrals you need to choose 8 types of slimes to ranch if youre doing Largos. Just 4 if youre not. The first three slimes are not much of a choice; youll need one corral to have a rad slime, one to have a rock slime, and one to have a mosaic slime. The other slime in the largo is up to you, as long as you have those three each with their own corral. The fourth largo doesnt matter, as long as it likes veggies. (Recomend crystal slime largo)

Almost done, just a few more steps. In each corral you should have between 12 and 14 largos for optimal performance. I havent tested with non largos so Im not sure how many you should have in each corral if you arent doing largos. (Also recommend purchasing every upgrade for the corral except for the solar shield) Each garden should be fully upgraded, not including the extra upgrades you can unlock from Ogden and Mochi (I spelled those names right, right?) Though, if you have it, the miracle mix upgrade couldnt hurt, but its not required.

One fully upgraded garden should produce enough food for one corral with between 12 and 14 Largos, with enough extra to slowly fill up the auto feeder (provided it is set to medium feed rate)

Now, just plop each slimes favorite veggie into a garden (Oca Oca, Heart Beet, Silver Parsnip, and carrots in this case) and watch the magic happen! FarmBot SHOULD automatically match each food to whatever corral contains the slime who likes that food, but if you want to play it safe and avoid possible issues, stock each auto feeder with 20 or so of the desired food beforehand.

And there you have it! You can use this method to fully automate any ranch expansion! All you have to do is occasionally give each drone a splash of water (splash the drone STATION, not the drone itself) but otherwise it runs itself!

Source

The Source option indicates where the Drone will gather the resources it is set to collect from.

  • When Plorts or a specific plort is selected, it is capable of collecting from Corrals, Ponds, Incinerators, Silos, Plort Collectors, and Free Range.
  • When a Food category or a specific food item is selected, it can collect from Gardens/Coops, Silos, and Outside Plots
  • Note: If a Drone is programmed to collect from Silos, Silos will not be an available option in Destination.

    Target

The Target option tells the Drone what it will focus on collecting.

The Drone can collect Plorts, Veggies, Fruit, Meat, and Elder Chickens. In addition, it can be programmed to target a specific item from any of the aforementioned categories, such as a Mint Mango, or a Mosaic Plort.

Once a Drone has a target, the top right readout when hovering the crosshair over the Drone will indicate the category of items the Drone is programmed to collect.

    FAQ

Can drones use warp depots slime rancher?

The Drones cannot utilize Warp Depots.

What are warp depots good for?

Blue Warp Depots can be used to transfer a single stack of items up to 300 units from one location to another and items can be deposited or retrieved at either end. They can be placed in any Gadget Site. Unlinked Warp Depots still function as normal, and therefore can be used as storage.

Where is the drone slime rancher?

    Warp Tech
    • Teleporters are used to transport the player from one location to another instantaneously.
    • Warp Depots are used to transport a single stack of items to another location.
    • And Links are used for player convenience; negating the need to visit the Refinery and Plort Market.
