CUP NOODLES, which debuted on September 18, 1971, revolutionized the food industry. The Styrofoam cup served three purposes: as a packaging material, a pot, and an actual eating vessel. The flash-fried noodles were suspended halfway in the upright Styrofoam container to allow hot water to circulate thoroughly from below and cook the noodles evenly.
Cup Noodles and Instant Ramen – A Short History
Although ramen was developed in China, as I previously stated, there are examples of noodles throughout the world. Spaghetti in Italy, noodles in china, ramen in Japan. However, the first instant noodles in the world were created, packaged, and distributed to the rest of the world right here in Japan.
Every year, more than 100 billion servings of instant noodles are consumed worldwide, and they all originated from this place. First, the instant noodle appeared, and on August 25, 1958, the first instant noodle in history was created here. Right here in Ikeda, Japan by Momofuku Ando.

In the years following World War II, Ando came up with the concept of instant noodles. He observed a line of people waiting in line to eat a bowl of noodles at a black market near Osaka’s main train station. Because of the severe food shortages that occurred in the years following the war, noodles were a beloved Japanese food that was also reasonably healthy and affordable. At that time, he made the decision to try and make noodles, or ramen, easier to prepare, keep, and consume.
By quickly frying the noodles to remove moisture, he solved the issue of drying the noodles. He got the idea after watching his wife Masako make crisp tempura. In August 1958, Chicken Ramen, the first instant ramen in history, went on sale. The noodles were initially flavored with chicken stock and seasoning; after adding hot water, a bowl of steaming ramen was created. How to Visit the Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum
The most well-known museum dedicated to instant noodles is probably the Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum. The museum has a sizable food court that is created to resemble an outdoor dining area from 1958 in Japan, the year the instant noodle was invented.
The museum debuted in March 1994 as an amusement park with a culinary theme. There are currently 9 small ramen restaurants there where you can order ramen. It’s a typical Japanese dining experience: choose a restaurant, purchase a ticket at a machine outside the restaurant, and enter the establishment.
