How Long Will Whipped Cream Hold Up?

Homemade whipped cream lasts about a day if it’s unstabilized and up to 4 days if you stabilize it. Aerosol whipped cream keeps for a couple of weeks past the date stamped on the canister. Whipped topping products sold frozen in tubs keep for months and up to two weeks after thawing them in the fridge.

I can still recall my first experience with homemade whipped cream. I’m referring to genuine items that weren’t purchased from a shop. It had the same flavor as ice cream but was lighter and richer. I knew after using it that I could never go back to the canned or fake kind.

Stabilized whipped cream is as divine as that first time you had real whipped cream!

This delicious stabilized whipped cream recipe keeps its shape for up to 24 hours and tastes great. I like to prepare a large quantity in advance for special occasions like Thanksgiving. The best part is that it only requires 4 basic ingredients, which are readily available at most supermarkets.

You only need a tiny amount of gelatin to make a significant difference in your whipped cream desserts; in fact, the only distinction between stabilized whipped cream and whipped cream made from a standard recipe is the secret ingredient (well, maybe it’s no longer so secret).

Since there is no taste difference, your guests will be perplexed as to how you created such incredible whipped cream that doesn’t deflate in ten seconds!

This Thanksgiving, I can just picture everyone raving about the whipped cream. They’ll be saying, “She must use magic; I’ve never seen a more gorgeous whipped cream,” I’m certain of it. Cue in the smiles and applause. ***.

Real whipped cream always inspires some mmms and ahhs, even if it doesn’t attract THAT much attention.

I always begin making my whipped cream with premium heavy whipping cream. I prefer the Hiland brand because it is accessible in our grocery stores and local. The heavy whipping cream from Hiland never tastes artificially preserved and always tastes fresh.

I must confess to you, my dear readers, that I don’t always make my pies from scratch for Thanksgiving. .

Hey, what can I say, I like shortcuts and occasionally I am all about the DIFM (Do It For Me) instead of always being a DIYer! Plus, when I make this whipped cream, which takes all of 10 minutes to make, nobody ever notices whether I made the pie from scratch or not!

Check out this incredibly entertaining quiz from Hiland to determine whether you are more of a DIY or DIFM person.

Whipping Cream Around The World

  • In the US: I recommend using heavy whipping cream for this recipe, but whipping cream works as well
  • In the UK: Both Whipping cream and double cream whip up really well.
  • In France: See this article for some great information.
  • In Australia: I recommend using double cream for this recipe.
  • Using ultra-pasteurized heavy cream: Ultra-pasteurized heavy cream can be used, but it requires more effort to whip. Use chilled bowls and tools, and make sure the environment is extremely cold. Although it might take a few more minutes than typical pasteurized cream, it should whip just fine.

How Long Will Whipped Cream Hold Up?

Although it is only made of heavy whipping cream, each recipe is different. This recipe is powdered sugar, vanilla, and skimmed milk powder.

For whipped cream that needs to last for a few hours:

Simply sweetening whipped cream with confectioners’ sugar (also known as powdered sugar) rather than granulated sugar will result in fluffy, sweetened whipped cream that will keep for about 12 hours in the refrigerator. This is due to the fact that confectioners’ sugar typically contains a small amount of cornstarch, which gives the whipped cream more stability. Simply whip 1 cup of cream with 1 tablespoon confectioners’ sugar added. Make it in the morning and serve it after dinner.

Before adding the powdered sugar to the cream, combine 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with it for even more stability. Cornstarch will give the dollops of whipped cream a little bit more stiffness and help them keep their shape, but it won’t add any additional flavor and won’t make the whipped cream last any longer than confectioners’ sugar alone.

Whip 3/4 cups of cream to soft peaks, then add 1/4 cups of Greek yogurt (any fat percentage) and confectioners’ sugar for a tart twist on stabilized whipped cream. Whipped cream has a silkier texture thanks to the yogurt, which stays perfectly dolloped on shortcakes and other baked goods. However, it does taste like yogurt, so be careful what you serve with it. It’s wonderful with apple pie. Yogurt made with coconut, vanilla, or honey can also be used to add more flavor.
