How to Relieve Diarrhea

If you’re experiencing diarrhea, these items might make you feel better:

  • Drink 8 to 10 glasses of clear fluids every day. Water is best.
  • Each time you have a loose bowel movement, drink at least one cup (240 milliliters) of liquid.
  • Throughout the day, have smaller meals as opposed to three larger ones.
  • Consume some foods high in salt, like soup, pretzels, and sports drinks.
  • Consume foods high in potassium, such as fruit juices, potatoes, and bananas.

To improve your nutrition, ask your doctor if you should consume sports drinks or take a multivitamin. Inquire about taking a fiber supplement to help your stools have more volume, like Metamucil.

Things you Should Avoid Eating or Drinking

When you have diarrhea, you should stay away from certain foods, such as greasy and fried foods.

Steer clear of foods that can make you gassy, like broccoli, peppers, beans, peas, berries, prunes, chickpeas, and green leafy vegetables.

Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and carbonated drinks.

If milk and other dairy products are aggravating your diarrhea or producing gas and bloating, reduce or stop consuming them.

Eating When you Have Diarrhea

You can broil or bake fish, poultry, beef, or pork. Cooked eggs are also OK. Use low-fat milk, cheese, or yogurt.

You might need to abstain from eating or drinking dairy products for a few days if your diarrhea is extremely bad.

Eat bread products made from refined, white flour. White rice, pasta, and cereals like cornflakes, oatmeal, cream of wheat, and farina are all acceptable. You could also try cornbread and white flour pancakes and waffles. But dont add too much honey or syrup.

Carrots, green beans, mushrooms, beets, asparagus tips, acorn squash, and peeled zucchini are among the vegetables you should eat. Cook them first. Baked potatoes are OK. In general, removing seeds and skins is best.

You can include snacks and desserts like sherbet, cakes, cookies, ice pops with fruit flavors, and fruit-flavored gelatin.
