How Much Marzetti Coleslaw Dressing To Use

This side dish has been passed down through the family from my great grandmother’s sister in law, aunt Pat.

I absolutely love the fact that I have recipes from everyone in our family that I can keep in one little cookbook! I also love tradition.

This recipe is perfect for your next side dish! Coleslaw is a classic side dish that can go with pretty much everything. It goes well with barbeque, pork, chicken, you name it!

This is also a very popular side dish in many restaurants. There are so many different variations of making coleslaw.

I personally like the traditional way of making it, although, I would not turn down the opportunity to try a new way of making coleslaw either!

Since there are different variations, here are a couple of web links I have found that also appear to be simple to make!

Original famous Marzetti® cole slaw: It’s so simple! Just pour 1 cup of Marzetti® slaw dressing over 1 lb (4-6 cups) shredded cabbage, stir until completely saturated and juicy for a crunchy slaw salad.
  1. 1/2 medium-size head green cabbage.
  2. 1/4 medium-size head purple cabbage.
  3. 2 large carrots.
  4. 1 cup Marzetti® Original Slaw Dressing.
  5. 3 tablespoons lemon juice, or juice of 1 lemon.
  6. 2 teaspoons poppyseeds, plus more for sprinkling on top.
  7. Salt and pepper, to taste.

Ingredients for our Simple Cole Slaw

  • 3lb bag of pre-shredded cabbage – we like Tri-Color Cole Slaw
  • 6oz. Marzetti Simply Dressed Coleslaw Dressing
  • 1 TBS ground black pepper
  • Can I save my leftover slaw?

Here are our thoughts on that… anytime a dish is made with mayo, if it has been left out for more that 3 hours, unfortunately you need to throw it out. The risk of bacteria growing is just too high and it is not worth it! If it was chilled the entire time, it will be fine to put in the refrigerator and safe to eat for 3-5 days. The slaw dressing tends to break down the cabbage after a while, so we try to eat any leftovers within the first 48 hours (which isn’t hard to do around our house!)

    FAQ

How do you dress store-bought coleslaw?

Turn store-bought cole slaw into something more flavorful (here’s the recipe for this slaw from Epicurious). Fruit: diced apple, dried cherries or blueberries, raisins, sliced grapes, mango or pineapple. Lemon or lime zest or a squeeze of lemon or lime for spark. Shredded carrots or diced red bell pepper for color.

How long before serving should you put dressing on coleslaw?

Never dress slaws too early or too much or they’ll lose their crunch. No more than 20 minutes before serving, add dressing in small increments; toss gently before adding more.
