The 5 Key Ingredients

My reliable five ingredients that go into almost all of my Chinese dishes never let me down, and the chilli garlic paste does almost everything—well, almost everything! The noodles will taste particularly Chinese thanks to these common pantry ingredients:

  • Finely chopped ginger
  • Soy Sauce for saltiness and umami,
  • Vinegar for acidity
  • White pepper for heat,
  • Sugar to balance out the other flavours

To enhance the flavor even more, you can add fish sauce for an additional umami layer. But watch out—too much fish sauce will mask all other flavors and make the dish taste terrible.

If we add a little oil to the boiling water, the noodles (found in any supermarket) will maintain their social distancing without sticking together. They are also very simple to make. Also, when cooking the noodles, be sure to add plenty of salt to the water. I usually cook the noodles for one minute less than the recipe calls for because they come out perfectly al dente. It’s also crucial to drain the cooked noodles right away, give them a quick wash in cold water, and toss them in a little oil. With all of this, your noodles won’t overcook or become clumpy.

All interested parties (i.e., those who stand by the stove, fork in hand, ready to dig in) can find a variety of add-ons that add interest to the chilli garlic noodles.

With onions, spring onions, capsicum, carrots, beans, and mushrooms, we’ve created a vegetarian version.

To tweak this recipe to your preferences, you could add:

  • Shredded cabbage,
  • Broccoli,
  • Eggs (scrambled at the end)
  • Protein like chicken, prawns, etc.

Serve this with some soda or beer and some simple-to-make Soya Manchurian or Chilli Chicken!

How to make it more or less spicy

You can adjust the level of spice in these noodles to suit your taste by using the methods I’ve listed. You can easily reduce the heat by using less chili sauce and omitting the sriracha.

I try to give everyone options, so please don’t criticize me in the comments if they’re too spicy or not spicy enough. It’s easy to adjust to your taste.

If you want your noodles extra spicy, even a small pinch of red chili flakes will make a big difference.

These hot noodles go well with extra pan-fried vegetables and salmon or chicken, in my opinion. It tastes great with ground chicken or my air-fried tofu as well. Anything goes here!.

I love using wide rice noodles, but even just regular old spaghetti will work!

Nonetheless, I think white rice noodles work best for Asian-inspired recipes because of their texture and neutral flavor, which lets the sauce’s flavors come through.

Even ramen noodles will work, just make sure to follow the directions on the package to avoid overcooking them.
