How to Serve
Serve your preferred sauce over the egg noodles, a great alternative to pasta. They can be used in soup or as an accompaniment to a hearty stew. They also make a delicious noodle casserole. These homemade egg noodles can be used in place of rice in most recipes, or they can be combined with butter and served with grated cheese to create the ultimate comfort food.
Tips for Making the Best Homemade Egg Noodles
- Use a pasta roller: If you have one, you can roll out the dough using it rather than a rolling pin. This will lead to more evenly formed noodles.
- Noodles that have been air dried: You can store these raw noodles for up to a month at room temperature in an airtight container after letting them air dry on a drying rack until they are completely dry. The noodles will snap in half when completely dried.
- Noodles made from dried eggs should be cooked for ten to twelve minutes.
- A humid kitchen: The dough’s texture is affected by humidity, so if the dough is still sticky after adding the entire cup of flour, gradually add more flour while kneading the dough until it becomes manageable.
Homemade egg noodles are perfect if you enjoy getting your hands a little messy and creating things from scratch. Although the dough is very easy to make, it does take some kneading. My kids and I both enjoy kneading dough, so we thought this was entertaining. ” —Danielle Centoni.
- 1 cup all-purpose flour, more as needed
- 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt

Difference Between Pasta and Egg Noodles
Eggs are used in many types of pasta, but they make up a larger percentage of the flour in egg noodles. As a result, the noodles have a deeper yellow color and a richer flavor. They’re mostly used in casseroles, stews, and soups, as opposed to pasta.
Egg noodles are often made with standard wheat flour. Pasta made with semolina flour has a rougher texture that better absorbs sauce.
Although there are many different shapes of pasta, egg noodles are usually wide and flat. Asian egg noodles are an exception; they are usually round and thin, like spaghetti.
