Is Campbell’s Chicken Noodle Soup Good For Upset Stomach

How does chicken soup help for Diarrhea?

For an upset stomach, the American College of Gastroenterology recommends broth-based soups over other types because they are:

  • High in sodium
  • Low in fat
  • High in water

Soup’s salt encourages your body to absorb more water, which helps your body replace the fluids lost due to upset stomach. If you have high blood pressure, however, go for the low-salt varieties so that you can still benefit from the fluids. Soups that aren’t fried in fat are also easy to digest, and your stomach can handle them fairly well—even if you’ve recently had nausea or reflux.

When can you start eating chicken on an upset stomach?

As you start to feel better, you can progressively add skinless, boneless chicken breast to your soup. Try not to add any additional fats to your chicken or chicken soup while you’re healing (at least 3 days).

For a more substantial soup, consider incorporating cooked vegetables and rice or noodles into the broth. But, since the fats and oils in fried or spicy chicken can aggravate your stomach even more, it’s best to avoid them.

How to make a healthy chicken soup

There are a few slightly different versions of the recipe below, but this is the most common one. It yields about 26 servings of one cup. Ingredients.

  • A pound and a half of parsnips cut into 1-inch pieces, four celery ribs, one turnip (about 34 of a pound) cut into 1-inch pieces, one bag (16 ounces) of frozen vegetables, seven 5-ounce cans of chicken or one 12-pound (5-cup) of cooked fresh chicken, one tablespoon of chopped garlic, two teaspoons of salt, and twelve teaspoons of cayenne
  • Heat the oil in a large soup pot over medium heat.
  • Add the parsnips, celery, turnip, jalapeño, garlic, salt, and cayenne to the pot.
  • These will cook for about fifteen minutes, or until the vegetables are crisp-tender but still soft.
  • Then add the onions, carrots, broccoli, collard greens, chicken broth, and lemon juice to the saucepan.
  • After bringing the soup to a boil, reduce the heat, and simmer it for five minutes.

Mom’s advice to follow the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast) and eat saltines and chicken soup is still the best home remedy for diarrhea. You’ll be alright soon.
