What Tool Do I Need To Make Zucchini Noodles

How I Tested the Zoodle Tools

I bought a bunch of zucchini so I could test each spiralizer! (Yum!) I noodle-ized a few zucchini with each tool. I took note of how simple it was to use, how reliable each option was, and how simple it was to clean them all.

The ratings: I gave each method an overall score, with 1 representing my least favorite and 5 representing my favorite. Similar to our previous showdowns, this one took into account the cost, ease of use, cleanup, and outcome. Continue reading for more in-depth notes and the rating.

Zoodle Tool: Julienne Peeler

  • Ease: 2
  • Zoodles: 1
  • Price: 5 ($9.99 — I bought this one)
  • Cleanup: 5
  • Rating: 2

Although a julienne peeler isn’t strictly a spiralizer, it’s frequently recommended as an alternative to purchasing a specialized device in order to make zoodles. The peeler worked well to create zucchini strands, but it wasn’t able to create the spiral noodles I was hoping for. What I got was more like matchstick fries than spaghetti. It also took the longest to use, and I was unable to peel a good portion of the leftover, wasted zucchini. Still, it was easily cleaned with a quick rinse and scrub. Overall: Not bad, but not great. Onto the next tool, I say!.

Zoodle Tool: Stand Mixer Attachment

  • Ease: 4
  • Zoodles: 5
  • Price: 1 ($74 for the attachment)
  • Cleanup: 5
  • Rating: 3

It’s very simple to use this stand mixer attachment, which fits into the hub of a KitchenAid stand mixer. The spiralizing is done for you by the mixer’s motor, which creates gorgeous, long zucchini strands. Additionally, it’s a wise choice if you want to spend the money and already own a KitchenAid stand mixer. It can handle a broad range of fruits and vegetables, including apples and sweet potatoes, and comes with a large number of different blades for different spiral sizes and shapes. It’s also top-rack dishwasher-safe. All that said, it is pricey. I had to chop it in half because it couldn’t fit a whole zucchini at once.
