Jjajangmyeon, also referred to as Korean black bean noodles, is a delicious Korean-Chinese dish. Pork and diced vegetables are packed into the rich, silky sauce. It covers the noodles and has a strong umami flavor.
It’s one of Korea’s most well-liked noodle dishes, and it’s ideal for special occasions or Sunday dinner.
I used pork boneless ribs because they were tender, had both meaty and fatty parts, and were therefore the ideal match. I tried substituting smoked pork jowl, which is also very affordable, for the bacon and pork belly because I didn’t like regular bacon after tasting and making this dish so many times. It gives a wonderful taste as well as the aroma. If at all possible, everything should be cut evenly, and small cubes should be no larger than 12 inch. This is my rendition, but a friend taught me how to prepare it in her preferred manner. Over time, I experimented, and the result is what my family enjoys. If you don’t eat pork, use chicken or ground beef instead. I tried both, and you can always enjoy a dish more by experimenting with different ingredients. Serve black bean sauce over rice, even if you don’t eat meat. Because black bean paste is quite bitter, it’s best to avoid skipping the frying step.
Tips
Just a hint of rice wine vinegar on top of the jjajangmyeon will help to balance out the richness of the sauce.
The well-known Chinese noodle dish Jjajangmyeon can be made quickly and cheaply without taking a lot of time or resources. Additionally, the advantages of meat and the smooth texture of the noodles create a delicious combination that you’ll want to repeat.
Kimchi is a wonderful with Jjajangmyeon – theres that vinegary bite which makes this a super yummy combination!
Delicious toppings include a fried egg, yellow pickled radish, cucumber slices, or sliced onions.
For a variation, serve topped with crispy fried pork belly – so delicious!
Shiitake mushrooms and pork go well together when stir-fried.
