GE front load washer troubleshooting is made simpler with the manual from the manufacturer and various test modes that you can use to check the functioning of the pump, motor, inverter and water valves among other components. There are error codes as well indicating what the problem is and why. Using them you can target your diagnosis and hence remedy.
To start the service mode you should close the door, clear all present cycles using the power button that will need to be hard-pressed for a while till the screen goes blank, the washer must be disconnected from the power source for half a minute at least and then you should reconnect the appliance to the power and press signal and start alternatively with delays within the first thirty seconds as the appliance powers up.
t01-t05 Test mode t01, t02 and t03 don’t have a diagnostic purpose. Test t03 shows software revision data. Test t04 will indicate if the LED and buttons are working fine. The t05 tests the water pump. If there is a problem with the water pump, you must clean it and run the test again. If the problem persists, you need to replace the pump.
t06 T06 tests the water lever control. The test will display E for an empty tub, F for water up to the foam level, nl for water reaching the main level, oF for water at almost overflowing level and then E if the tub is again empty.
t07 T07 tests the water heater. After the tub is filled with water to the intended level, the heater will start working and the temperature displayed in the control panel will rise steadily. Should there be an issue, you need to check the water heater and might have to replace it.
t08 T08 tests the hot water valve. Malfunctioning hot water valve needs to be replaced. T09 is for cold water valve. This valve too needs to be replaced and cannot be repaired if it malfunctions. Test t10 will examine the spin basket and if it is tumbling. You may have to replace the spin basket or get rid of any component that is preventing the tumbling. You may want to call in a technician.

Let’s first know how to activate the service mode on a GE front load washer.
Once you successfully enter the washer into the service mode, t01 will come up on the screen and the door will get locked.
If you any of these models like GFWN1000, GFAN1000, GFWN1100, and GFAN1100, the procedure is slightly different. To activate the service mode on these models, press signal, extra rinse, signal and extra rinse. Press the same button sequence to come out of the service mode.

Caution – Never attempt to disconnect the power when the washer is in service mode. It could lead to a damaged control board.

Error Codes Test Mode
After you diagnose a GE front load washer, it is necessary to clear the error codes. If you don’t clear the error codes when you have another problem, the old error codes will emerge from an issue that has been fixed. To clear the error codes, press and hold start/pause till E00 gets displayed. Press power to exit this test mode and the display must turn t02.
If at anytime during the test, the main water level is reached, the washer will pump out the water and exit the test mode. Also, if you press power at anytime it will exit the test mode. Some GE front loader washer models donât have a dispenser motor but still have a dispenser test mode. Modes with no dispenser motors have three water valves, one hot and two cold. The water valves are energized in combinations to fill the correct dispenser compartment.

Note that some GE front load washer models do not have this test mode. This can be a little confusing because you can rotate the knob until t09 is displayed; however, when you press start/pause you hear two beeps and the display continues to display t09.
To enter the tumble test on a GE front load washer, rotate the control knob until t10 is displayed then press start/pause to enter the test mode. Once the test mode is entered, âttâ will be displayed in the control panel and the spin basket will start to tumble in one direction for 5 seconds then reverse and tumble for 5 seconds in opposite direction. This will repeat continually until you exit the test mode by pressing the power button.
To enter the cold-water test mode on a GE front load washer, rotate the control knob until t09 is displayed in the control panel then press start/pause to enter the test mode. This is the cold-water valve test mode. Once this test mode is entered, âCldâ will be displayed in the control panel and the cold water will start to run. Cold water will continue to run until the main water level is reached or you press power to exit the test mode. If the main water level is reached before the test mode is terminated, the washer will pump the water out and return to t09.
