Lead Someone To Become Trapped By The Shrine

The Skyrim quest Boethiahs Calling has players sacrifice a follower for a Daedric Prince, but some followers are more deserving than others.

Boethiah, Skyrims Daedric Prince of Conspiracy and Deceit, has a simple task for the Dragonborn to have a chance at becoming his champion: bring a follower to the Shrine of Boethiah, then sacrifice them. Its a simple enough request at heart, but its hard to make the choice to permanently kill someone who decided to follow the Dragonborn in their adventures across Skyrim.

Luckily, there are a few followers that make the decision on who to sacrifice a little bit easier. Some Skyrim followers are downright bad people who betrayed the Dragonborn or break into the homestead to “visit” their wife long after marriage. Others are simply the easiest followers to find on short notice or followers whose deaths wont impact the world significantly.

Updated June 3, 2022 by Erik Petrovich: Boethiahs Calling is one of Skyrims most infamous quests. In this quest, players are tasked with sacrificing a follower to the Daedric Prince Boethiah. The problem is, there are a lot of followers to choose from in the game. Some are obvious, like Ralis Sedarys, while others feel morally ambiguous, like fellow College of Winterhold students. When it comes to who to sacrifice to Boethiah in Skyrims Boethiahs Calling quest, the easier the follower to acquire the faster the quest can be completed. As such, all followers who can be hired for a small 500 Gold fee are great options for the Boethiahs Calling sacrifice. Most of the followers listed here have a decent reason behind their being chosen for death.

“Boethiahs Calling” is the name of the quest given to players from the eponymous Daedric Prince upon reaching the Sacellum of Boethiah. The player must be at least Level 30 for the quest to begin at all, otherwise the Sacellum will be totally empty.

Notes[edit]

  • No player is known to have acquired a bounty from killing their follower for this quest. However, it may still trigger faction-specific reactions, such as Rejoining the College if you kill Brelyna Maryon.
  • Boethiah would have given you a second Daedric Quest in which you would have killed Solitudes Jarl Elisif the Fair. The quest was not included in the game but the data was left in the game files.
  • It is possible to get the Blade of Sacrifice without having to start the quest by looting the dead body from the fight pit. You can also get more than one this way.
  • It is possible to get up to nine Blades of Sacrifice if you have the “Misdirection” Perk by pickpocketing each of the 8 cult members before the sacrifice as well as collecting one from the member used for the voice. This will make the cult members fight with their fists instead of weapons.
  • One or more of the bandits in Knifepoint Ridge might start a fight with the old Champion if they get close enough to him to be hurt by the poison damage done by the Ebony Mail when they are searching for you.
  • Sometimes you will not be attacked by a cultist and must find the book or go to the Sacellum to trigger the quest.
  • After the follower is placed on the pole and sacrificed, they can be looted of their default armor 2x if quick enough. 1 after the sacrifice (before the voice initiates forced dialog), and 1 after the voice leaves the followers body at the fighting pit.
  • If you stand by after being given the task to slay everyone in Boethiahs Sacellum, the cultists will kill each other until there is one left to fight. If you quick save after being given this task, you can always re-load until the last survivor does not have much health left.

This quest begins either by reading the book Boethiahs Proving, which can be found in various locations around Skyrim.

The New Champion[edit] Your “badge” of office

After making the sacrifice and killing all the cultists, Boethiah will again use a body as a conduit (it may not be the same one) and tell you she needs a new champion. To become the new champion you must kill the old champion and his bandits at Knifepoint Ridge, northwest of Falkreath.

Despite Boethiahs order to kill them stealthily, being detected does not result in quest failure or any other penalty. Nonetheless, most of the bandits inside the mine are busy with their backs to you and can be assassinated. A few are standing in pools of flammable liquid that can be ignited with fire spells. Its difficult to sneak up on Boethiahs Champion because of the direction he faces when sitting, but if you climb on top of his shack, you can drop down behind him. Once you defeat Boethiahs Champion, you must equip his Ebony Mail. Boethiah will then speak to you one last time, telling you that you are her new champion and giving you the Ebony Mail as your reward.

Ralis Sedarys, The Most Justifiable Choice

How do you beat Boethiah’s calling without sacrifice?

Yes Lydia, don’t be shocked people. I sacrifice Lydia as well why because I hate how bloody useless she is, can’t go a single fight with her without having to save her worthless ass several times from even minor enemies despite me having given her daedric armour and dragonbone weapons.
