Why do they call it drunken noodles?

The term “drunken noodles” (Pad kee mao) refers to a dish that was invented by a man who was hungry and drunk when he returned home. He started making some noodles with what he could find in the pantry, which later gained popularity in Thailand. The fact remains that these noodles are delicious even though this story is probably not true!

The combination of flavors in pad kee mao creates a mouthwatering explosion on the palate. The nutritional value of a plate of pad kee mao is excellent. These noodles are made with rice flour, so they are gluten-free. Celiac disease sufferers can easily eat this delicious dish. Furthermore, rice noodles are low in fat and sodium and high in fiber and complex carbohydrates.

Thailand’s favorite stir-fry noodle dish is called pad kee mao. Mao, which means “drunk” in Thai, can certainly be enjoyed without consuming excessive amounts of Chang or Singah If, however, your pad kee mao was made with genuine Thai spice, you might prefer one of the big three beers available in Thailand!

If you anticipate the noodles to be like those in pad thai, you might be let down. Both dishes use rice noodles, but pad kee mao typically uses wider noodles than the more common pad thai noodles. Also unexpectedly thick, the noodles have a chewy, rubbery texture.

Lots of holy basil adds a herbal sweetness; soy sauce, fish sauce, garlic, and robust chilies combine to create a flavor that is hard to stop eating.

Vegetables like broccoli, carrots, corn, bell peppers, and bean sprouts are frequently used in the preparation of pad kee mao. You have the standard options of tofu, pork, chicken, beef, and seafood for proteins.
