Ive straightened my hair for years, and have always been annoyed that it can take up to 20 minutes to do my whole head. Thats why I was intrigued when I heard about the InStyler, a combination straightening iron and brush that spins and straightens your locks as you use it.
I used the 1¼-inch iron. It was perfect for me because my hair reaches right above my shoulders. To start, I blow-dried my wet hair. (You can use it when your hair is wet too, but I thought it would be easier to try for the first time when my hair was dry.) I also added a heat protection spray to protect my hair from the irons hot temps.
I started from the back and worked my way to the front. All I had to do was lift a section of my hair and insert it into the InStyler—it did the rest. By the time I got to the front, I was impressed by the lack of frizz and the amount of volume my hair had. (I love having volume!)
Through the process I discovered that how much volume you get depends on how slow you straighten your hair. I noticed that when I took my time with the iron, I got the the va-va-voom I adore.
The InStyler also came with a heat rag to place on my counter during use and an iron protecter so I didnt burn myself as I used it. Pretty neat, huh?
My final verdict: The InStyler is extremely easy to use—and fast. Once I become a pro, Im sure itll only take me five minutes. So if youre craving less time with your straightening iron like me, then youll really love this product.

1. Detangle, section, and smooth hair before styling. 2. Hold the tool vertically. 3. Grab a 1-2″ section of hair and wrap it around the barrel. Make sure the entire section of hair is laying flat on the barrel. 4. Close WET TO DRY for 3-5 seconds. The longer you press, the more defined the curl will be. 5. For beach waves, take a smaller section, and wrap hair in alternate directions for a more undone texture. Leave 1-2’ of hair out on the ends.
