Does Steve Nash Have A Ring

The greatest Canadian basketball player of all-time, Nash never won an NBA title as a player. He’s a champion now though, as he was part of the Golden State Warriors championship-winning team last season.

The Victoria native has been a player development consultant with the Warriors for the last two years.

Most of the team was presented with their rings eight days ago, before Golden State’s season opener. Nash, for whatever reason, wasn’t part of that ring ceremony.

The two-time MVP picked his ring up recently in a slightly less glamorous presentation, featuring a shirtless Steve Kerr. Lucky for us, he shared the moment on social media.

“My own personal ring ceremony,” Nash posted to Instagram. “Want to thank everyone who came out and for all the support. Clothing was optional but good vibes mandatory. Go Dubs.”

Nash never won a championship as a player

Steve Nash fell short of getting a ring as a player. His teams never got to the NBA Finals. It didn’t help that the Mavericks and Suns were up against dynasties in the Lakers and San Antonio Spurs.

Steve Nash was one of the best point guards of the 2000’s. A smart ballhandler with an immaculate shooting touch, he won two MVP’s as a member of the Phoenix Suns.

After retiring a few years ago, Nash became a player development consultant for the Warriors last year, helping mostly during practice sessions. He’s worked with Stephen Curry on his shooting, and Kevin Durant on his scoring moves.

Nash wasn’t present at the ring ceremony a few weeks ago, so coach Steve Kerr decided to personally give him the championship ring himself—shirtless for some reason. Nash posted the above with the caption, “Want to thank everyone who came out and for all the support. Go Dubs.”

Though Steve Nash and the Suns were one of the most exciting and memorable teams of the 2000’s, he the only MVP in league history to never make the Finals (Derrick Rose hasn’t yet, either).

Since he never was able to get a ring during his playing career, Nash receiving one for coaching is bittersweet. He was always a smart player, and I’m sure he could be an amazing coach in the future, like fellow sharpshooter point guard Steve Kerr.

Steve Nash and Steve Kerr both had very memorable NBA careers with their fair share of highlights. While Kerr enjoyed five championships as a member of the Bulls and Spurs, Nash never had the honour of watching his teams banner raise to the rafters. Years after his retirement as an NBA player, Nash joined the Golden State Warriors as a consultant to the players. In his first season, the Warriors went 73-9 in the regular season but would lose in the NBA Finals to LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. In his second season with the club, the Warriors won the NBA Finals in dominating fashion giving Nash his first championship, even if it was in the capacity of a consultant. While most players received their rings as part of a large team ceremony, Nash received his a little while later, and not as quite traditionally. In an Instagram post from Nash, the former star point guard can be seen receiving the ring from a shirtless Steve Kerr in what he described as “his own personal ceremony” where “clothing was optional”.
