Logic Pro How To Insert An Arrangement Markers Section

Arrangement Markers are an easy way to flesh out your arrangement in Logic Pro X. When I’m writing song, I typically find myself working on each part of the song, section by section. I usually start with the intro, then verse, then chorus, bridge, etc. And after I’ve got all my main instrumental ideas put together, I start writing lyrics, and the lyrics determine the order, or arrangement, of the song. This is where Arrangement Markers really shine.

To use these, you need to pull up your Global Tracks. In the main window press G to pull up all of your Global Tracks. This includes Markers, Time Signature, Tempo, as well as the Arrangement Markers.

Once you have the Global Tracks pulled up, click on the plus (+) button next to the Arrangement Track to create a new Arrangement Marker at the playhead position. Continue this for each section of your song.

After creating an Arrangement Marker, this will link the regions to the Arrangement Marker. So you can can click and drag these to re-order your song, or option-click and drag to duplicate an Arrangement Marker, and all of the Regions below it.

Select “Suspend Content Connection” in the drop down menu to unlink the connection between the regions and the Arrangement Marker.

To unlink the region content from the Arrangement Markers, select “Suspend Content Connection” from the Arrangement Drop Down Menu in the Global Tracks.

By default, arrangement markers are eight bars long. The first arrangement marker begins at the start of the project. Each additional arrangement marker you add starts at the end of the previous one, with no space between. Arrangement markers are most useful if you add them to every section of the project, so that you can rearrange the entire project.

You add and edit arrangement markers in the arrangement track, which appears at the top of the Tracks area. When you add an arrangement marker, it is eight bars long. You can resize it to cover the section of the project you want it to include, and rename it to reflect its place in the project.

You can add arrangement markers to a project to create different sections, such as an intro, verse, and chorus, and then move the sections in the Tracks area to quickly rearrange the project. Arrangement markers can be particularly useful when you have added some material (recordings, loops, or media files) to the project and want to try out different arrangements.

Many worship leaders use these markers to label their song sections such as “verse” and “chorus”. If you do, you may want to pair them with a cues track. A cues track announces each section right before it starts, so that you can audibly follow the sections throughout your song. To create a cues track, you will need audio files announcing each of the song sections as well as count-in’s to help guide you on beat. You can purchase the band cues pack by Loop Community in our Shop.
