Runescape Tuna Fishing Spots

A harpoon is a tool used in the Fishing skill to fish in fishing spots with the “Harpoon Fishing spot” option. Harpoons can be used at Cage/Harpoon fishing spots and Net/Harpoon fishing spots. A harpoon is on the tool belt automatically and can be used indefinitely.

In order to fish with a harpoon after learning Barbarian Fishing, a harpoon must be placed in your inventory, as it cannot be wielded. A barb-tail harpoon however, can be wielded to circumvent this.

Players may receive harpoons from opening a box of summoning ingredients, a possible reward from the Familiarisation Distraction and Diversion.

Harpoon spots[edit | edit source]

At Cage/Harpoon fishing spots, players with level 35 or higher Fishing can catch tuna for 80 experience each while harpooning. When players reach level 50 Fishing, they can also catch swordfish for 100 experience each when harpooning at Cage/Harpoon fishing spots. Members who have reached level 76 Fishing can harpoon sharks for 110 experience each at Net/Harpoon fishing spots.

When a player is able to catch two types of fish with a harpoon (for example able to catch both tuna and swordfish), players will typically catch more of the fish which requires a lower fishing level (in this case tuna) than the fish that requires a higher fishing level to catch (the swordfish).

Keep in mind that only players with 68 fishing can access the Fishing Guild, although an admiral pie will drop that requirement down to 63.

Note: this method requires having some extra coins in your inventory to pay for the back and forth boat trips (30gp at a time).

All of the above make tuna something that’s not really actively fished for – and it’s more of a by-product that someone acquires while going after swordfish.

And wearing a Rada’s Blessing (depending on its tier) will give you a chance between 2%-8% of doubling your catch.

The best locations to catch tuna for non-members are the Corsair Cove Resource Area and Karamja’s Musa Point, while members can find their best spots at the Fishing Guild and Land’s End.

Raw tuna are fish that can be caught with level 35 Fishing or level 55 Fishing if catching barehanded, granting 80 Fishing experience per catch. It can be cooked into tuna with level 30 Cooking, granting 100 Cooking experience on a range and 110 Cooking experience on a bonfire. Raw tuna are caught through harpooning, which requires either a harpoon or sufficient Barbarian Training. The fish are caught with the Harpoon option at Cage/Harpoon fishing spots found by the sea.

Free players generally only fish tuna at the dock on Musa Point. Members generally fish tuna at Catherby or the Fishing Guild. Since swordfish is also caught at the same fishing spots, tuna are sometimes seen as a nuisance by players seeking swordfish; thus, it is often seen dropped by Cage/Harpoon spots. At level 35 Agility it is possible to catch two raw tunas at once, but you will only receive experience for one tuna. If two tunas are caught at once a message will appear in the chat box stating, “Your quick reactions allow you to catch two tuna.”
