The Presence Vs The One Above All

The Beyonder and the One-Above-All are godlike beings in the Marvel Universe, but one is definitely a more supreme being.

Both the Beyonder and the One-Above All have a decent claim to being the strongest character in the Marvel Universe. Each possesses an effectively unlimited amount of power, and they have both treated some of Marvels most famously strong cosmic beings like toys in landmark events like Secret Wars.

Now, were taking a closer look at both of these omnipotent cosmic powerhouses to see which one truly is the strongest being in the Marvel Universe.

Described as having more power than a million universes combined, the Beyonder was originally positioned as a supreme being within the Marvel Universe. As later revealed, he is an ancient entity from a race of beings who exist as the sum of everything in their multiverse, and he can control the fundamental fabric of space and time.

Created by Jim Shooter and Mike Zeck in 1984s Secret Wars #1, the Beyonder can shape reality, regenerate on a cellular level and change into any form. He also has cosmic strength, which he frequently put his power to the test in order to learn more about humanity. In Shooter and Al Milgrims 1985 follow-up Secret Wars II, he demonstrated his incredible powers by warping reality to meet his desire for perfection.

The Beyonder has also survived big blows from powerful heroes like Molecule Man, and hes absorbed whole universes in the process. Unfortunately for him, all that power came with a price. The Beyonder eventually realized the world could not be complete or perfect, even with his manipulation.

Since his debut, Marvel has retconned several of the Beyonders powers. He even lost them to Doctor Doom at one time. However, his ability to warp reality allows him the ability to “potentially” simulate any power he wants.

Although he has only made occasional appearances in the Marvel Universe, the One-Above-All is said to be responsible for the existence of all life in the multiverse. First appearing in 2004s Fantastic Four #511, by Mark Waid and Mike Wieringo, the One-Above-All sees and knows all. With no set appearance, he also has the ability to appear anywhere and everywhere at the same time and he exists beyond space and time.

With so much unlimited power at his grasp, he is considered to be the most powerful character in the Marvel Universe. Hes also the superior master of the cosmic overseer and judge known as the Living Tribunal. As the creator of the Marvel Universe, hes even taken the appearance of Jack Kirby, the comics legend who was a driving factor in the creation of most of Marvels biggest franchises.

While the Beyonder and the One-Above-All are both immensely powerful reality-warpers of the highest order, the One-Above-All is an order of magnitude stronger than the Beyonder. While the Beyonder has gotten caught up in the rivalries of the Marvel Universe and seen his power taken by mere humans, the One-Above-All truly exists in another realm, where he stands omnipresent and omnipotent.

The One Above All has no equal. Even his counterpart, The One Below All, is actually an alter-ego of himself, not a separate entity. On the other hand, there are entities – or an entity – that are equal to The Presence but exist outside of The Presence’s creation. Let’s browse through some crucial categories to determine who (and why) would win this matchup.

On the other hand, The One Above All created absolutely everything. Nothing that exists is not a product of his doing or undoing. The One Above All created both the light and dark and all life in the omniverse, including all of the cosmic entities and the tiniest speck of dust.

As you can see, The Presence states that even he was created by forces “external” to himself. Those forces can be several things, but two alternatives are most likely to be true. The first alternative would be that The Presence refers to the writers of DC Comics – the real-life writers who created the character, just as they did any other character.

The One Above All sits, well, above all. There is nothing above him. He is everywhere and nowhere. In fact, his level of existence is completely beyond and outside of the Marvel Omniverse. He exists outside of the very fabric of existence, as he was the one to create it.

They are both described as omnipresent, omniscient, and omnipotent – meaning they are absolutely all-powerful, and there is simply nothing they cannot do. They have no boundaries, and if you compare two beings with no boundaries – the end result is boundless. Both would win, and neither would.

To cite the Bible, a book written in ancient times about what people believed was the most powerful force in all reality: “At the beginning there was the word. and the word was with God. And the word was God.” The word is a metaphor for story. And the story is creation. No matter if imagination or reality. And this is also the greatest gift given to humankind: to be creators ourselves.

The Presence recovers in an instant as well, and counters with a causality manipulating attack that makes things nonexistent. Unsurprisingly, the One-Above-All takes this as well. Then the Presence creates a giant “energy” sphere that actually contained the concept of death. Yes, the Presence was literally going to throw death at his opponent.

The Presence: That I am. You are supposedly the Supreme Being of the Omniverse that the other Gods kept telling me about. The one being who could defeat me. In any case, I dont have to take responsibility for what my creations do. They have the free will, just like yours, to make the choices that they make. I just sit back and watch.

Wiz: The Presence also could not destroy the Great Evil Beast, and the Great Evil Beast was stated to be equal in power to the Presence. The Presence had to merge with the Great Evil Beast to end his threat. Although that it should be noted that the Great Evil Beast is the evil side of the Presence, to Great Darkness to contrast the Great Light.

That is the power of the One-Above-All. He is more than Absolute Infinity. He is more than causality. He is the master of the plot itself. And no matter how powerful you are, as long as you are a fictional character, you cannot escape this single truth: the plot dictates and you do as told.

FAQ

Is The Presence the same as one above all?

Wiz: We would like to remember all of you that the Presence is literally infinitely more powerful than all three of the Demiurgic Archangels combined. Boomstick: The Presence has also casually moved and held Creation with one hand. Of course, that is what happens when you’re admittedly infinite and eternal.

Who can defeat one above all?

TOAA has a more described presence, while The Presence stays in-character, TOAA can be any Marvel writer, because TOAA is not just a mere and simple fictional character. For one, while the Presence is infinite, he can be most accurately represented as a cardinal of infinity, like aleph-ω.
