We’ll help you keep your washer fresh and clean so you can continue to enjoy all of its great features. LG front load washers come with TubFresh™ technology—a system that includes an advanced tub-cleaning cycle and other innovations, which make it easy to clean your washer and all its parts. Other washing machines may have a Tub Clean feature.

Most modern front load washers now have a drain trap. Mainly on the LG and Samsung machines.

Sometimes lint and other debris can collect in your drain pump filter. Keep things running smoothly by occasionally cleaning it. Watch the video to learn how to clean your drain pump filter or scroll down for step-by-step instructions.

How to prevent musty odor and build ups from the tub

If there is lint build up on the tub or the tub smells moldy, use washing machine cleaners to clean the tub regularly. You can maintain the tub clean all the time if you run the Tub Clean cycle once per month. If you see ‘tcL’ flashing from the control panel, it means that it’s time for you to clean the tub. Empty the unit and run the Tub Clean cycle.

Models without Tub Clean feature. 1)Add correct amount of washing machine cleaner by following the manufacturer’s dosage instructions. 2)Fill 2/3 of the tub with water and run a wash cycle for 2-3 minutes to mix the cleaner and turn off the unit. 3)Turn on the unit after 2~4 hours. ■ Avoid using bleaches. 4)Run a wash cycle that includes [Wash]-[Rinse]-[Spin] cycles.

→Clean Filter models (light blue, model no.: TR***) cannot select hot water for Tub Clean cycle. If you want to clean the tub with hot water, select a cycle option from standard course to operate. (E.g. Standard cycle + Temp. high, add Soak cycle + Water level 10, low spin speed)

How to Use the LG Washer Tub Clean Cycle

If you have an LG washing machine or some other brands, then check to see if you have a special cycle mode called “Tub Clean”, or “LG Tub Clean” or something like that. On my front-loading washing machine, this option is in the upper right corner.

The tub clean LG washer feature removes detergent buildup and other residues.

Before running the tub clean cycle, follow these steps.

  • Remove all attachments, including the dispenser.
  • Use a solution of 3/4 cups bleach to 1 gallon of water to clean gaskets, and inside the door. Note: Instead of bleach, you could try using vinegar, but don’t use both.
  • For front loading washers, manually drain and clean the drain pump filter.
  • Once the above steps have been completed, start the Tub Clean cycle using a washing machine tub cleaner. For tablets, add them directly to the drum. Powders can be poured into the main wash compartment in the dispenser. Liquid cleaners go in the main wash compartment.

LG recommends running this Tub Clean cycle monthly in order to remove detergent buildup and other residues.
