John Stamos thinks people made too big a deal out of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen not returning to the “Full House” reboot, “Fuller House.”
Mary-Kate and Ashley took turns playing Michelle Tanner on “Full House” for eight seasons between 1987 and 1995. The two were only nine months old when they started filming the show, where Stamos played Michelles uncle, Jesse Katsopolis.
Although Stamos reprised his role as Uncle Jesse in the 2016 Netflix reboot, “Fuller House” (which ended in 2020 after five seasons), the famous twins didnt make an appearance. The show addressed Michelles absence by saying that she was busy running a successful business in New York City, seemingly referencing Mary-Kate and Ashleys real-life pivot to the fashion industry.
While promoting his new true-crime podcast, “The Grand Scheme: Snatching Sinatra,” Stamos said that “its remarkable” what Mary-Kate and Ashley have done since “Full House” ended and added that he was “proud” of them.
“I remember trying to get them on Fuller House and they didnt want to come in or there was some miscommunication, or whatever it was — it was blown out of proportion,” Stamos told Insider in July.
According to Stamos, Lori Loughlin, who played his on-screen wife Becky, told him that the Olsen twins had won several Council of Fashion Designers of America awards by the time conversations began about the reboot.
“Thats like winning an Oscar. Its like Oh okay, that makes sense,” he said about his former costars winning the prestigious award.
Stamos added: “Its really inspiring. Its just strange to think of them as those little kids. Now theyre such smart, powerful, important women. And they were smart, powerful, important kids too, but its just great to see.”
“Fuller House” executive producer Bob Boyett said at the time that Mary-Kate and Ashley didnt make an appearance in the reboot because of their busy schedules running their fashion label, The Row. Boyett also said that Ashley told him that she no longer feels comfortable being in front of the camera.
It isnt particularly surprising that the sisters chose not to reprise their role as Michelle — Mary-Kate and Ashley havent acted in about a decade. Mary-Kates last acting role was in 2011 in the romantic-fantasy movie “Beastly,” while Ashley last had an uncredited appearance in 2010 in “Im Still Here.”
In a rare interview with i-D magazine in June, the sisters said that they are “discreet” people despite growing up in the spotlight. In a separate British Vogue interview in 2019, Mary-Kate and Ashley said it was important for them to keep a low profile.
“Weve been there, weve done that, we started out that way,” Mary-Kate told the magazine in 2019. “But this is the way we chose to move forward in our lives: to not be in the spotlight, to really have something that speaks for itself.”

Bob Saget and Olsen twins relationship
In fact, it appears Bob and the Olsen twins shared a tight bond. They were pictured together even after the show came to an end. Bob played Danny Tanner in Full House, the twins’ father.
In a February 2021 interview with Today, Bob revealed he still keeps in touch with the twins. “(They are) just like my own kids,” he said. “Ashley and Mary-Kate, I love so much. When I’m in New York or when they’re here, when we can, we see each other.”
What happened between Bob Saget and the Olsen twins?
On March 17, 2021, a video posted online titled “Inside Bob Saget’s Inappropriate Relationship with the Olsen Twins”.
Saget never had any sexual relations with the Olsen twins.
The 24-minute clip contained footage from Bob’s Comedy Central roast 2008, where celebrities were challenged to make fun of him.
The video included snippets from Gilbert Gottfried’s segment where he joked about Bob’s relationship with the Olsen twins.
And with information taken out of context, many fans took to Twitter to “cancel” the 90s actor as a slew of false accusations were made against him.
Among them, included claims made in the video that Saget was responsible for the Olsen twins absence from Netflix’s 2016 sequel of Full House – despite earlier evidence from producers proving otherwise.
What did Bob Saget say about the Olsen twins?
Despite the bogus claims made in the video, Bob and the Olsen twins reportedly shared a tight bond.
The trio were often pictured together in the years to follow the show’s 1995 conclusion as Bob supported their acting careers.
Speaking in an interview in February 2021, Bob revealed that he regularly kept in touch with the twins as well as fellow cast members.
He said: “Whoever I was with at the moment, just like my own kids.
“Ashley and Mary-Kate, I love so much. When I’m in New York or when they’re here, when we can, we see each other.”
