Alec appears towards the end of Breaking Dawn, and plays a larger role. He, alongside his twin, Jane, accompany the rest of the Volturi guard to Forks. They went to deal with the presumed immortal child, Renesmee Cullen, who is actually Bella and Edwards biological child. Jane and Alec attempt to use their powers to give the Volturi an advantage.
Alec does not appear in the book Eclipse. His twin, Jane, is sent to clean up the newborn army that Victoria created to destroy the Cullen family and Bella. It is said that only five members of the Volturi came: Jane, Demetri, Felix, and two other vampires.Though he has no role in the book, Alec appears in the film adaptation of Eclipse. Eventually, the superstitious locals found the twins too frightening to endure. They were accused as witches and condemned to be burned at the stake. Aro was apprised of the situation by a nomad who knew of Aros interest in the twins. Aro hurried to the village, arriving just in time to interrupt the execution. Transformed at the age of 12/13, they are the smallest and youngest in appearance, as well as the most prized members of the guard due to their incredibly powerful gifts. It is said that they are the cornerstone of the Volturis offensive abilities. Though not directly said, they could be considered two of the most powerful vampires in the world gift-wise, capable of taking down opponents regardless of size or age.
Alec first appears in New Moon when Jane brings Edward, Alice and Bella, and Alec takes delight in teasing Jane for bringing back Alice and Bella instead of just Edward. Once Edward, Alice, and Bella are permitted by Aro to leave, they are taken to another room to wait until midnight in order to avoid suspicion. Alec is the guard who goes to inform them when they were allowed to go.In the movie adaptation, Alec remains quiet in most of his screen appearance. He keeps hold of Bella while Aro decides what to do. When Aro makes his decision to kill her, Alec casts Bella aside, turning her around to face Felix, and walking out of the way. It is then Edward jumps in to protect her.
When Jane tries to attack Bella after she blocks her powers, Alec holds her back, soothing her by patting her on the shoulder. After Janes power gets blocked by Bellas shield, Alec tries to use his power. He is also unsuccessful, though he isnt angered by failing to penetrate her shield. He doesnt retract his “mist”, but rather continues to look for holes and weak spots in Bellas shield, without success. When the Cullens and their witnesses prepare themselves to fight against the Volturi, Vladimir states that Alec owes him many lives, and chooses Alec as his target. After Renesmee was proven to be a human-vampire hybrid by Alices new witness, Nahuel, who is also a hybrid, Alec retreats to Volterra along with the rest of the Volturi.
As well as possessing superhuman strength, speed, agility, endurance and the ability to heal, Edward’s superpower is – of course – telepathy: he can read the thoughts of those around him. Unlike Aro, who needs to be touching his “target” in order to read their mind, Edward can do it from afar. Hearing the thoughts of everyone within close proximity at the same time could get annoying; luckily, he can “tune out” of the ones he’s not interested in. Frustratingly for him, Bella is the first exception to his gift; until, that is, she “lets him in” at the end of Breaking Dawn.
Jane is the twin sister of Alec but, rather than numbing pain, she can deceive the mind of her target into thinking they are being burned alive. When she uses her power, the victim normally falls on the floor, writhing around in excruciating pain. As a result, her presence terrifies even the strongest of vampires.
Like Edward, Aro can read minds; but only when he has physical contact with them. This is known as “tactile telepathy”, and the longer he touches the person, the more he can see their thoughts. In New Moon, Aro tries to read Bella’s mind but (like Edward) fails due to her powerful mental shield. However, he does do something clever in Breaking Dawn: he uses his gift to see Edward’s thoughts – and, in turn, the thoughts Edward had read in other peoples’ minds.
Bella’s gift is her very powerful shield – one that has been growing and working without her knowing since she was born. Because of her shield, she is protected from powers of the mind – that means that Edward (and Aro) can’t read her thoughts, Kate can’t shock her, and Jane can’t cause her pain. When she became a vampire, she learned that she could make her shield bigger and protect others, making them immune to mental powers, too. In Breaking Dawn, she protected herself (and her allies) against the Volturi using her shield and (as mentioned) she lifts her shield for Edward at the end of the book, allowing him to read her mind for the first time ever, and bringing them even closer together.
Jasper has the ability to sense and manipulate the emotions of people around him – a power that is known as ‘pathokinesis’. Although described by Edward as a “subtle ability”, it seems pretty strong to us: in Twilight, he managed to calm Bella down to such an extent that she fell asleep. His power is also not limited to vampires and humans – something that was revealed in Eclipse when he manipulated the mood of the Quilette shape-shifters.
Compared to other vampires, Jane and Alec are weak in melee combat since they never trained in it. But what they lack in direct fighting, they make up for with ranged support—Janes mental powers let her mentally torture foes (making them easy pickings for others) and Alec can numb the senses.
The second-fastest and second-strongest of his family, Jasper is the Cullens best overall fighter despite having a power thats relatively worthless in battle (he can influence emotions). Once Bella looks at him with her improved vampire vision, shes amazed to see how many scars he has—showing how many vampires have tried to kill him and failed. The Quileute wolves also note Jasper as their biggest threat among the Cullens, calling him “power and speed and death rolled into one”.
Mister cant-keep-his-shirt-on serves as Edwards love rival before imprinting on his daughter (Renesmee). Kinda creepy, but theres no denying that Jacobs the strongest of his pack. Once matured, hes physically the biggest (10 feet long!), takes over as Alpha wolf, has the strongest telepathic command, and is noted by Sam as the groups best fighter.
