You can start cooperation in Destiny 2 after the Spark mission, in the Red War campaign. The first mission is the one we had in beta: the attack on the tower. Once you’re done with this, wander aimlessly until you meet Hawthorne. It takes you to the farm, the first social space.
In order to access co-op, players need to complete a few main story missions and access the full open world. Specifically, you’ll need to accept and finish the mission “Markers of Plague,” which tasks players with searching a run-down hospital with the character Hakon.
How many friends can I play with in Destiny 2?
Most of the game’s activities are designed for teams of three, four, or six firefighters, but there may be more for certain things, like private Crucible matches. Some activities, such as Heroic Adventures and Campaign Missions, are designed to be played alone, but with the option to add up to two team members.
The menu system and interacting with players is largely the same, however, you will need to actually have that player’s Battle.net Tag. This is a name along with a series of numbers afterward, all of which needs to be input to add this person as a friend. Then it’s just a matter of either opening up their profile in-game or going to the Director > Roster > and then select their name from your list.
Destiny 2 is the newest FPS from developer Bungie and it’s aiming to deliver on all the promises that players had for the first game. While you can play many activities alone, it’s highly recommended that you complete missions with a fireteam. This typically consists of 3 people (6 in a raid) and they can be either random players or friends. Some types of missions like the campaign mode require you to invite others, while Strikes can pair you with two random people.
Remember you can invite players to a fireteam both in and out of activities for PvE and PvP. We highly recommend that you play with friends during your Destiny 2 playthrough, as the game is clearly designed to be experienced with others.
However, you won’t be able to invite your friends to a game right off the bat, as Destiny 2 requires you to finish a few levels first. In order to actually unlock the co-op feature, players will need to complete the Prologue mission and an additional level afterward. Once you actually arrive at the social hub, speak with Hawthorne to gain the “Spark” mission. Finish this level and you will unlock the ability to invite friends to play with you.
For those hosting a fireteam you can go to the Friends menu and then scroll up to the “Game” tab. Players can then decide on a variety of privacy settings that include:
Humanity’s last safe city has fallen to an overwhelming invasion force, led by Ghaul, the imposing commander of the brutal Red Legion. He has stripped the city’s Guardians of their power, and forced the survivors to flee. You will venture to mysterious, unexplored worlds of our solar system to discover an arsenal of weapons and devastating new combat abilities. To defeat the Red Legion and confront Ghaul, you must reunite humanity’s scattered heroes, stand together, and fight back to reclaim our home.
