Rarity is a G4 Unicorn Pony and one of the main characters in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Many toys versions of Rarity have been made and she is consistently seen on merchandise with the rest of the main cast.
Rarity lives in Ponyville where she works as a fashion designer. She has a younger sister named Sweetie Belle, who lives with their parents. The two dont always get along, but Rarity cares deeply for her sister. Though Rarity is devoted to fashion and can sometimes be overdramatic, she is very generous and is always willing to help a friend. As a unicorn, she is capable of using magic to reveal hidden caches of gems which she gathers to use in her designs. She gained this ability spontaneously as a filly, which would lead to Rarity discovering her cutie mark. She represents the Element of Generosity.
Depiction in the series
Coco is employed by Suri Polomare as her assistant during Rarity Takes Manehattan and accompanies her during Manehattans Fashion Week. She is responsible for making the dresses; after Suri copies Raritys designs and her fabric, she tasks Coco with making the dresses.
Coco is depicted as a soft-spoken and somewhat shy pony. She is routinely put down by Suri, especially when she remarks that Coco almost got her disqualified when remaking her dresses with Raritys fabric—Coco defends herself stating she was simply trying to make sure Suri would win. Throughout the episode, she unwillingly backs up Suris comments and lies towards Rarity and her friends.
Coco appears near the end of the episode and presents Rarity with her trophy from Fashion Week. She explains that Suri lied to Rarity and her friends about her losing in the hope that she would win by default should Rarity’s absence be counted as a forfeit. She also says that working with Suri for so long gave her the impression that it “really is everypony for herself” in Manehattan. However, after seeing the generosity Rarity showed to her friends and the generosity they reciprocated, she realized that there is more for her out there, so she quit her job as Suris assistant. She then presents Rarity with a small gift of a spool of rainbow-colored thread as a thank you.
Rarity offers Coco a job with her friend to make all the costumes for his next show, to which Coco exhibits a subtle excitement. She is last seen waving her new friends goodbye at the Manehattan train station.
In the episode Equestria Games, Coco Pommel appears in the stadium crowd during the opening ceremony of the titular event.
In Made in Manehattan, Miss Pommel posts flyers around Manehattan asking for volunteers to help put together the Midsummer Theater Revival, an event that she states that she loved participating in when she was a filly. She receives some help in the form of Rarity and Applejack, who were summoned to Manehattan by the Cutie Map.
In The Saddle Row Review, Rarity hires Miss Pommel as a salespony for her Manehattan boutique, but she comes down with a cold, preventing her from working during the grand opening.
Miss Pommel is mentioned several times in Honest Apple.
In The Last Problem, Coco briefly appears in Raritys group shot during The Magic of Friendship Grows.
Depiction in Equestria Girls
In My Little Pony Equestria Girls, Rarity accompanies Twilight to her first princess summit in the Crystal Empire, and she witnesses Sunset Shimmer steal Twilights crown. In an alternate world, Raritys human counterpart appears as a high school student.
Rarity briefly appears in the sequel My Little Pony Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks at Twilights castle, where she hears the legend of the sirens.
In Forgotten Friendship, Rarity appears on a stained glass window in Canterlot Castle.
The Elements of Harmony guidebook
RARITY could possibly be the most beautiful Unicorn youve ever seen, and she works hard to keep it that way—but she wants everypony to be beautiful, too! She uses her eye for detail, her creativity, and her Unicorn powers to find gems and make things sparkle! Her gorgeous designs are displayed at Ponyvilles newest fashion salon, the Carousel Boutique. Rarity sees tremendous potential in her friends and always offers them makeovers and beautiful new clothes of her own design. Raritys generous nature inspires her to make her friends as beautiful on the outside as she knows they are on the inside. Though she may seem entitled and prissy, Rarity has a heart as pure as gold.
Glamour! Style! Sophistication! At first glance, one might assume a polished pony who commands the room would be superficial and shallow. Thats not the case with Rarity. Shes not just another pretty mane. Her boundless heart and giving spirit make her a fancy force to be reckoned with—just ask her friends. Shes an ace at helping them through their toughest battles when shes not at her Carousel Boutique making dresses for Equestrias most prominent ponies. Shes even solved a mystery or two in her day (and looked fabulous doing it!). It hasnt been easy balancing her career as a fashion designer with her mentorship of younger ponies. Regardless, a perfectionist like Rarity always finds a way to make it work.
In the chapter book Rarity and the Curious Case of Charity, when Spike displays infatuation toward Charity Sweetmint and Charity likewise dotes on him, Rarity shows signs of jealousy, especially when Charity addresses him as “Spikey-Wikey”.
